I’m about to graduate from grad school soon. I’ve applied to hundreds of online postings but still got nowhere. I’ve spoken to professors, classmates, and my friends. I really don’t want to move back in with Mom & Dad. Can anyone help?

You could try offering your services for free on a voluntary basis. Or you could start aiming smaller and writing and applying to little firms rather than big ones.

I’ve been a recruiter for several years – for an entry level job, I’ve seen people in financial services have success with:
1. Their professional society – attend meetings and network with the attendees, watch their online job postings.
2. Work with their grad school placement office for referrals, and networked with a faculty member teaching a course central to their interests.
3. If you have accounting skills, think about grinding out a work stint with one of the Big 6 (or whatever the number is now) Accounting firms for low pay, long hours and excellent professional experience to list on your resume.
4. See if one of the military branches, even in a reserve capacity, might have use for your skills. Don’t neglect the Coast Guard or National Guard when you look at this option.
5. Go to the library, or maybe you can find it online, and get a book called “Directory of Executive Recruiters” and find the recruiters in your specialty.
6. Review the online niche boards, i.e., jobsinthemoney.com
